Management gaps
It is the classic case for temporary management – a sudden unforeseen vacancy. An important position becomes vacant and the function cannot be left without managerial guidance. When you think of temporary management, you think of this situation. In fact it has not been the most frequent type of assignment in our twenty years in the business, but in the last two or three years the demand for managers to fill vacancies has increased considerably, perhaps because there is more awareness and confidence in temporary management.
Covering a management gap occurs more frequently in the following functions
ADMINISTRATION, FINANCE AND CONTROL:
The Administration Director leaves just before drawing up the balance sheet or the Finance Director signs up with the firm and then changes his mind, or the Director of Administration, Finance and Control suddenly becomes ill. Administration and Finance is of course the area that needs to be effectively covered immediately. Day to day work cannot be carried out without reference to the balance sheet.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT:
The General Manager or the Managing Director may suddenly become ill or resign for personal issues or disagreements that cannot be resolved.
PURCHASING DIRECTOR:
After failure to appoint a Purchasing Director in a given time there is urgent need for professional management, or there may be an unforeseen resignation of the Purchasing Director or sudden illness.
TRANSFER OF KNOW HOW:
In cases of management gap, immediate action should be taken. The problem has to be solved in a matter of days (from two /three to seven at the most).
